Increase of 172% in single trip taxi fare

Are you using public transport to the richest square mile in
South Africa? It might cost you a lot more than you had budgeted for.
Those who use public transport from the township Alexandra to Sandton and other destinations will have to pay R30. The fare used to be R11.
The prices are set to kick in on June 15.

The organisations behind the price increase, the Alexandra-Randburg-Midrand-Sandton Taxi Association and the Alexandra Taxi Association (ATA), say it is the only way to remain operational.
The recent petrol hike and taxis not being allowed to be filled to full capacity is the reason for the increase.
