Former SA rugby star crowned World's Strongest Man
Former Cheetahs player Rayno Nel has become the first African to be crowned World's Strongest Man.
Rayno Nel, a former CUT (Central University of Technology) and Cheetahs rugby player, has just made history.

On Sunday, May 18, Nel was crowned the World's Strongest Man during his debut in the competition, becoming the first African to hold the title.

Nel also became the first man outside of Europe or North America to win the title in 48 years.
According to USA TODAY, he is also the first rookie to win since 1997.
"I'm just over the moon," he told USA TODAY Sports after snatching the title in Sacramento, California.

"To represent South Africa in any way whatsoever, it feels surreal," he added.
"I mean, we're a small country with a lot of struggles. To have something like this—I know it means a lot to my people."
According to SA Rugby Magazine, the 30-year-old, who weighs 148 kg, managed to snatch the title from defending champion Tom Stoltman.
Nel won by just half a point in the two-day final.
The rugby player-turned-strongman was the captain of the CUT rugby team before being called up to join the Cheetahs.
SA Rugby Magazine reports that Nel only started proper strongman training in 2022 and also works as an electrical engineer.
