A fierce debate has raged in South Africa over the past couple of months about the use of Ivermectin, with many South Africans asking the government and the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) to make it legal for humans to use.
South Africa, Ivermectin is only available to use by animals for parasites and is not approved by the regulatory body for treatment in humans.
Professor Salim Abdool Karim says, “It is quite important when cases are rising and doctors feel helpless, they want a miracle cure. However, the evidence is flimsy and there is no compelling case .”
