South Africa's national cricket team, the Proteas, has been crowned World Test Champions after winning their first major cricket trophy in 27 years in London on Saturday, 14 June.

Aiden Markram was the man of the moment, scoring a century that led South Africa to a historic five-wicket victory over Australia in the ICC World Test Championship final.

Chasing a target of 282 at Lord's Cricket Ground, the Proteas sealed the win at 282-5 before lunch on day four. Markram was dismissed for a stunning 136, just six runs shy of the target.

Resuming the day on 213-2, the Proteas kept their composure, and Markram’s heroics with the bat ensured the job was completed in style.

  • South Africa 1st innings 138 (D Bedingham 45; P Cummins 6-28)
