South African residents have been taking matters into their hands due to frustration over being stuck in traffic due to power cuts. Many residents have taken it upon themselves to direct traffic during loadshedding in the absence of traffic officers.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department is now warning citizens to stop taking matters into their own hands. The JMPD says that residents are not authorised to direct traffic.
Following an interview with ENCA, the JMPD's Xolani Fihla confirmed that the department will not be liable if anything goes wrong.
