“No man is born to cause harm to women. This is learnt behaviour and a cycle that needs to be broken,” said Prince Harry.

Harry and Markle visited non-governmental organization The Justice Desk in Nyanga, Cape Town on Monday

The NGO aims to educate children about their rights, self-awareness and safety.

“Your commitment is inspiring, it’s energising and it’s extraordinary. You must keep going, you must know that what you are doing not only matters, it is vital – because you are vital,” said Markle.

The organisation also provides self-defense classes and female empowerment training to young girls in the community.

Over 35 000 residents have benefited from the program, which is supported by the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

“So, now it’s about redefining masculinity. It’s about creating your own footprint for your children to follow in so that you can be a positive change for the future,” said Harry.

The couple said they have been keeping a close eye on the developments in South Africa and President Cyril Ramaphosa’s efforts to curb gender-based violence.
