WATCH: Monfils dodges a Roanic smash
Frenchman Gael Monfils knew he would have a tough time trying to see off Canada's Milos Roanic in their Australian Open quarter-final clash -- but certainly not before a ball had been hit in anger yet.
The beanpole Canadian, known for his strong ground strokes and powerful service game, downed Monfils in a tough four setter in Melbourne on Wednesday, to reach his second Grand Slam semi-final.
Roanic will meet Briton Andy Murray in the semi's, while old foes Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will clash in the other on Thursday evening (Australian time).
Roanic also became the first Canadian to reach the Australian Open semi-finals, having reached the Wimbledon semis in 2014.
But, the 23rd seed Frenchman Monfils certainly didn't bank on having to dodge his opponent's bombs even before the match had got underway.

And in an incident-packed match, a spectator in the Rod Laver Arena had his day of fame, as he took a spectacular one-handed catch in the crowd that a cricket fielder would have been proud of, as Roanic miscued a smash. And he didn't even have to move out of his seat.
