The 5-2 try triumph in front of 54 000 fans marked the third time that South Africa have won a World Series Sevens title on home soil and takes them to a joint top spot with Fiji on the latest overall standings for the current season.
The Blitzbokke’s match-winning tries were scored by Rosco Speckman (2), Seabelo Senatla (2) and Rayno Benjamin. Justin Gedult added two conversions and he was named ‘Man-of-the-Match’ afterwards.
For Argentina, German Schulz and Axel Muller scored converted tries.
In earlier action, Bowl winners Samoa overwhelmed Russia to the tune of 40-5 in the first of three finals on Sunday.
The Russians had scoring opportunities early in the match but once they failed to capitalise, it was one-way traffic thereafter as the South Pacific Islanders Samoa piled on the points.
Next on the winners rostrum was Bowl winners Scotland, surprise 19-0 victors over England, last week’s Dubai finalists.
Fiji, last week’s Dubai champions, added to their silverware collection when they lifted the Plate salver following their 29-19 win over the USA in the final.
There was some Cape Town Sevens consolation for third play-off winners France who scored a come-from-behind 28-26 win over the vastly-improved Kenyans. France snatched the match-winning points after the fulltime hooter sounded.
Kenya’s highlight in Cape Town would have been their Pool B victory over fellow Africans, South Africa, on Saturday.
