Steyn injury scare as retirement rumours intensify

The Proteas were dealt another heavy blow when Dale Steyn left the field with a right shoulder strain during his fourth over in the England second innings on day three of the first Test at Kingsmead, in Durban, on Monday.

Steyn bowled 3.2 overs before leaving the field, and Proteas management said he would return to the field before going for a scan later in the day.
Steyn had just returned to fitness in time ahead of the four-Test series against England, after missing the last three matches of the Test series against India. Steyn limped off injured during the first Test in Mohali against India with a groin injury in the opening week of November.
There were also rumours of his retirement along with AB de Villiers and Vernon Philander by Rapport on Sunday. Steyn at 32 years old could well be heading towards retirement as he is becoming plagued by injury.
Steyn claimed 4/70 in South Africa’s stint with the ball in England’s first innings, as he took his Test wicket tally to 406 for his country. The Phalaborwa Express the second leading wicket-taker for South Africa behind Shaun Pollock with 421 wickets.
