The South African Football Association (SAFA) will be lodging a formal complaint to the Confederation of African Football CAF and football's world governing body FIFA.

SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe says the match officials decided the outcome of last night's World Cup qualifier between hosts Ghana and Bafana Bafana and that's not the way things should be done.

Ghana won the Group G encounter 1-0 through a highly debatable penalty to advance to the final round of qualifying in March next year at Bafana's expense.

Speaking ahead of Bafana's departure from Cape Coast this morning, Motlanthe said they feel they owe it to the players to challenge the outcome of last night's match.

“We as the association have decided that we will be writing to both CAF and FIFA first to investigate how the game was handled, and secondly to also challenge some of these decisions.”

Motlanthe said SAFA was extremely disheartened by last night's developments and felt it prudent to act immediately as they don't want the result to destroy their players.

“We feel very much robbed because it is not an isolated incident of a penalty there are just a lot of questions by officials and of course that’s why we said we will get an expert which will dissect other incidents so that we can make a strong case."
