Hugo Broos named new Bafana Bafana coach

Hugo Broos has been named the new coach of Bafana Bafana.
He replaces Molefi Ntseki, who was sacked over a month ago after failing to qualify for the Africa Cup on Nations.
The country’s national men’s team crashed out of the competition when they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sudan in Khartoum at the end of March.
Broos has been roped in to get the team ready for the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers coming up later in the year.
The South African Football Association (SAFA) says it received more than 200 names for the top job.
They narrowed it down to 5 coaches - 3 of which were local and the other 2 were international.
“During interviews, when I met with him he had spoken about his passion to work with young players,” said SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe at a pre-announcement at the SABC.
“He’s been watching our games and he has also picked where we are going wrong and we believe that the plan he will bring will help to get us back where we belong as a country.”
The 69-year-old Belgian national led the Cameroon national squad to the Africa Cup of Nations victory in 2017.
“We needed someone that is ready and that knows the arena because we had to look at the short time to go to the qualifiers,” Motlanthe added.
“We thought at this point Broos will do a good job.”
Broos joined the adjacent announcement at SAFA House, virtually.
He’s expected to arrive in South Africa next week.
In his maiden address since his appointment on Wednesday, Broos vowed to rebuild the national team.
“For me it’s very important that I can come to South Africa as soon as possible and that I can have greetings with my South African assistant,” Broos told media.
“I will try to be there next week to have greetings and to see what we have to do in the next month.
“We will do everything, everything to be qualified for the World Cup next year.”
