FINA slaps ban on two SA athletes
FINA (International Swimming Federation), the world body administering world aquatics sports competition, has announced bans for South Africans in their latest media releases.
Two-year bans were handed down to 21-year-old swimmer Louisa De Jongh and waterpolo player Jabulani Sibiya.
De Jongh tested positive to the prohibited substance Phentermine (Class S.6 Non-Specified Stimulants) following an in-competition doping control test conducted at the Western Province Aquatics Championships.
The Judicial Committee of the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport imposed a sanction of two (2) years’ ineligibility on the athlete starting on March 3, 2016.
On April 23, 2016, the waterpolo player Jabulani Sibiya tested positive to the prohibited substance Carboxy-THC (Class S.8 Cannabinoids) following an in-competition doping control test.
The SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport imposed a sanction of two years’ ineligibility on the athlete starting on September 26, 2016.
