Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has dismissed reports that striker Edin Dzeko could be sold in the January transfer window.
Dzeko has scored seven goals in 14 appearances in all competitions this season, but has not started a Premier League game since the end of September.
The blossoming partnership between Sergio Aguero and summer signing Alvaro Negredo has left Dzeko on the substitutes' bench in recent weeks and prompted speculation he could be on his way in the New Year.
Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan have all been linked with a move for the Bosnia-Herzegovina international, who is likely to be playing at the World Cup next summer.
However, Pellegrini is adamant the 27-year-old remains a key member of his squad and he does not want to lose Dzeko when the transfer window reopens.
"No, that is not the case [that Dzeko could be sold]," said Pellegrini.
"I put my trust in him before the season and I have just as much trust in him now.
"It is very important for this club to have a good squad because we have a lot of games to play from now until April and, if we want to win trophies, we need important players.
"Maybe at the moment he is not playing as much as he would like, but he remains an important part of the squad."
