Two more years: Ramaphosa extends Kieswetter’s stay as SARS
President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended Edward Kieswetter's tenure as the head of the South African Revenue Service Commissioner by two years.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ramaphosa said the extension would enable “an orderly leadership transition in the organisation”.
Kieswetter was appointed in 2019 on a five-year contract, which was due to expire in April.
Kieswetter has been credited for steering the programme to improve operational productivity and rebuilding trust in the tax agency after the dismissal of his predecessor, Tom Moyane.
"The decision follows the agreement between the President and Mr Kieswetter to extend the tenure of the commissioner to enable an orderly leadership transition in the organisation," the Presidency’s Vincent Magwenya said on Tuesday.
"Mr Kieswetter will continue leading the execution of the current strategic direction of the revenue service while ensuring a smooth leadership transition.”
