Three to line up in Mpumalanga court for possession of eleph
Three men from Limpopo will appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Friday for illegal possession of elephant tusks.
Police arrested the trio on Thursday.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Dineo Sekgotodi says they are facing various charges.
"Information was received regarding a double-cab Toyota Hilux suspected to be carrying elephant tusks. The team operationalised the information, and the vehicle fitting the description was spotted, stopped, and searched.
"During the search, three elephant tusks were found hidden inside a bag at the rear side of the vehicle. The suspects were apprehended and charged with illegal possession of elephant tusks and contravening the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act.
"Exhibits and a vehicle valued at R70.000 were seized for further investigation.”
