The call centre located in Morning Side will start taking calls and applications.

Just over R1 billion has been allocated to be distributed to those who qualify.

“Relief is intended for all minibus operators, meter taxis, and e-hailing partners- this refers to those who use the e-hailing platform to provide the service, not the companies, Uber or Bolt,”

“To qualify operators must be a South African citizen, or a permanent resident, they must be in possession of a valid operating license, the applicant must be registered with the South African Revenue Service as a tax payer,”

The relief fund is a once of payment.

Mbalula believes this will begin the process of transforming and formalising the taxi industry.
