This comes amid the stormy weather in the province since Sunday.

By Monday, 29 schools have reported damage due to the heavy winds and rainfall, with the majority of the reports being roof leaks or minor flooding.

Three schools have reported more serious damages after roof sheets were blown off.

Western Cape Education's Director Bronagh Hammond said the department has consulted with the weather service and the Provincial Disaster Management Committee for the way forward.

"While the weather conditions are set to improve for the reopening of schools, raincoats, umbrellas and reflective gear are encouraged, and even a possible change of clothes. Parents are urged to exercise caution on the roads as the cape weather is certainly back with many more wet days that we can expect to embrace in the third school term.”

Hammond warned it would be a dark and wet start to the school term.

"I can confirm that all schools are to officially open. Requests to close due to inaccessibility of roads may be considered on a case-by-case basis pending damages that occurred overnight by heavy rainfall.”
