Six suspects arrested for Benoni kidnapping
Six men were arrested between Saturday and Monday in connection with a hijacking
and kidnapping incident in Hillbrow on Wednesday.
Spokesperson for Gauteng police Dimakatso Sello says the 47-year-old victim was found in the early hours of Monday morning at a house at Crystal Park in Benoni.
“A multi-disciplinary team managed to rescue the 47-year-old victim from a house in Crystal Park during the early hours of today. The victim found with no visible injuries and then taken to hospital for a medical check-up. He has been safely reunited with his family.”
Gauteng has been experiencing a surge in kidnapping incidents.
Sello says one of the suspects is an alleged mastermind behind countless of other kidnapping incidents around the province.
“One of the suspects who is believed to be the mastermind of several kidnapping incidents in and around the province, is currently on bail for three other incidents of hijacking, kidnapping and extortion.”
Sello adds that three of the suspects were found in the presence of the victim.
“One suspect was arrested on Saturday and two more were arrested in different addresses in Daveyton between Sunday and early hours of today while the other three were arrested at the house where the victim was found.”
