Sentencing proceedings against Joburg serial killer Mkhwanaz
Pre-sentencing proceedings in the case of convicted serial killer Sifiso Mkhwanazi were on Wednesday postponed to the second week of August.
The 22-year-old appeared briefly in the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge following his month-long stay at the Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital, where he underwent a mental assessment.
Mkhwanazi was found guilty on more than 20 counts, including rape and premeditated murder of six sex workers, whose decomposed bodies were discovered at a panel beater workshop in the Johannesburg CBD two years ago.
"Your matter then is postponed to Wednesday, the 7th of August 2024, for pre-sentence proceedings,' said Judge Cassim Moosa.
A report from his probation officer is among those that have yet to be finalised.
The state submitted the psychiatric assessment report and one victim impact report for one of the six victims, Joyce Moyo.
The court heard that another victim report for Chihota Nyarai was only received on Tuesday evening and will be made available to the court at a later stage.
Social workers reportedly had little cooperation from the family of one of the victims, Patricia Magaisa- meaning no report was obtained.
The other three victims remain unknown.
