SA’s Covid-19 infections pass 1.4m mark

Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that the total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 1 404 839.

In his daily report on Saturday evening, Mkhize said 12 271 new cases have been identified since the last report.

 

"Regrettably, 498 deaths have been reported,” he said.


Most of those deaths - 201 - were recorded in Gauteng, followed by 125 in KwaZulu Natal, 71 in the Western Cape, 45 in the Eastern Cape, 19 in Limpopo, 18 in Mpumalanga, and 2 in the Northern Cape.


This brings the country's death toll to 40 574.


The country's recovery rate now stands at 86,6%.
