Road users urged to remain vigilant on roads during Easter b
Motorists are urged to be extra cautious on the country's roads with traffic volumes expected to rise this Easter long weekend.
The Easter period in 2022 saw just over 160 recorded road fatalities.
That increased to 225 last year.
The Automobile Association's Eleanor Mavimbela says the government needs to consider proposals to increase the number of traffic law officials by at least 50% and increase visible policing across the country.
She says motorists should watch their speed, buckle up, check their rearview mirrors regularly and stop when tired.
" While the government has in the past implemented several seasonal road safety campaigns, particularly over the Easter period, road fatalities are still increasing.
As the Automobile Association, we are saying that the government's interventions have limited impact on fatality numbers and it's time to adopt a new approach."
