Protesters shut down Sekhukhune hospital’s water supply
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
Protesting residents have shut down the water supply to Saint Rita's Regional Hospital in Sekhukhune.

Riverside settlement residents blocked water supply to the hospital by seizing the distribution valves of the pipeline.
This was done in protest against the lack of water in their settlement.
The hospital has been relying on water tankers from the municipality for two weeks now.
Limpopo Department of Health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana says the incident has had a massive impact on hospital hygiene.
“Before we even talk about the disruption of surgical procedures, basic things need water, the hospital needs to operate in a hygiene environment.
“We do laundry for patients that require a lot of water, bathing patients, cleaning corridors, even theatres cannot operate without water.”
