The Johannesburg metro police and the Hawks have dismantled an illegal distillery in Hekpoort, west of Johannesburg.

The officers acted on a tip-off, leading them to a plot on Wednesday.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said a total of R570,000 in cash was seized, along with machinery and alcohol estimated to be worth R20 million.
A 45-year-old was arrested and detained at the Hartbeespoortdam police station.
"Upon arrival at the premises, officers were met by a 45-year-old man who claimed to be the manager and shareholder of the business,” said Fihla.
“A subsequent search of the property uncovered a sophisticated operation producing whiskey, brandy, gin, and vodka, including counterfeit labels and packaging.”
Fihla described the bust as a significant blow to the illicit alcohol trade."
[This operation] highlights JMPD's commitment to combating organised crime. We will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to disrupt criminal activities and protect the public."
