The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the assault of a blind woman by an officer in the Free State.
The woman was allegedly assaulted in Phuthaditjhaba on Sunday.
Spokesperson for the police watchdog Ndileka Cola says the 46-year-old blind woman was allegedly slapped in the face numerous times by the officer.
“As alleged, the police officers were at their house to arrest two other people for other transgressions.
“The 46-year-old heard the screaming and crying of her 32-year-old sister. As she reached out to check what was happening, she heard slaps,” says Cola.
She says the woman apparently asked her daughter to record the assault on video.
“That’s when the police officer who was just standing outside opened the burglar gate and slapped her on her face numerous times.”
Cola says a third person at the house has also laid a complaint of assault against the police officer.
