A 37-year-old Limpopo police sergeant has been arrested on various charges, including hijacking.
Sergeant Phuti Masupje and 34-year-old accomplice Mathews Mamupu were arrested at the weekend.
Masupje is attached to the local K9 unit.
"The suspects, travelling in a Citi Golf, allegedly forced a vehicle with three occupants to stop along the R572 road on Saturday morning, using the sergeant’s appointment certificate and a hand gun.
"After ordering the victims out of their vehicle, they allegedly robbed them of their cell phones, cash and then drove off from the scene with both vehicles," says police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo.
The two suspects were later arrested after handing themselves to the police.
"After a thorough search, the police found the lion claws and lion teeth.
"They also found cash in Botswana and South African currencies,” says Mojapelo.
Both suspects have appeared at the Phalala Magistrate's Court on Monday, and are due back in court on Friday for a formal bail application.
