The Oversight Committee of Public Works and Infrastructure has pledged a hands-on approach to Parliament's reconstruction.

The building burned for three days in January 2022, and officials say the repairs will cost about R3 billion.
Speaking after touring the gutted National Assembly, chairperson Carol Phiri stated that the reconstruction, which began this year, is on track and must be completed by May 2026.
She emphasised the project should adhere to the stipulated time frame.
"It is a concern as well about us having Parliament in a marquee. We are not happy at all, and as a custodian, we are going to keep track, and we are going to make our oversight."
The man arrested for the fire, Zandile Mafe, was charged with arson, but the court declared he was mentally unfit to stand trial.
