The Mhala Regional Court in Mpumalanga handed down two life sentences to a 43-year-old man who raped a 12-year-old girl in 2022.

The man was convicted of raping the minor at Marite on two separate occasions.
"The mother of the victim was alerted about the trauma that her daughter continuously faces. She then confronted her daughter, who confirmed that, indeed, the accused raped her at his house between 18 and 19 January 2022 as he stays not far from the victim's residence," said police spokesperson Donald Mdlhuli.
The court ordered that the two life sentences run concurrently.
Meanwhile, the same court slapped an 87-year-old man with five years’ imprisonment for attempted murder.
He attacked his 13-year-old grandson at Marite Trust near Hazyview in August last year.
