Masemola calls for unity, focus at Crime Intelligence
Updated | By Emile Pienaar
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has urged senior officers in Crime Intelligence to focus on the SAPS’ core mandate of preventing, combating, and investigating crime.

Masemola introduced newly appointed Acting Divisional Commissioner, Major General Solomon Makgato, and several other acting appointments to fill vacant senior posts at Crime Intelligence.
Makgato’s appointment follows the arrest of current divisional commander Dumisani Khumalo.
Khumalo and six other police officers are facing charges of fraud and corruption for the hiring of an inexperienced 30-year-old officer to a senior position within crime intelligence.
The appointments also come amid explosive claims made by KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi this weekend about alleged interference in police work.
He alleges a criminal syndicate has infiltrated the SAPS and has made serious allegations against Minister Senzo Mchunu and other high-ranking police officials.
"Intelligence remains the bedrock upon which effective operational strategies are built. The work of CI is fundamental in proactively identifying threats, disrupting criminal networks, and safeguarding our nation,” said police spokesperson Nonkululeko Phokane.
"The national commissioner emphasised the importance of unity and issued a stern directive to all managers to refrain from any involvement in smear campaigns or activities that damage the integrity and morale of the organisation.
"He called upon Crime Intelligence managers to extend their full support and cooperation to the acting divisional commissioner and other senior managers appointed in acting positions."
