The Tshabalala family confirmed the news in a statement, saying the popular South African artist passed away in the morning as a result of an epileptic seizure.

The 45-year-old was a member of an iconic kwaito band TKzee.

The band released its first album Halloween in 1994.

The group became more prominent after their collaboration with then Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy to record Shibobo, which was released in the run-up to the 1998 World Cup in France.

Orlando Pirates, the former club for Tokollo's father Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala, sent its condolences to the family.

"We convey our heartfelt and deepest sympathy to the Tshabalala Family and pledge our profound moral support.

“We supplicate that God gives the family fortitude at this moment of extreme grief and pain. May his soul repose peacefully," the club said in a statement.

The family has asked for privacy during the difficult period.
