Further increase in Covid-19 admissions in SA on Christmas E

The number of people admitted to hospital in South Africa has increased by 321 over the past 24-hour testing cycle until Friday evening.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reports that there currently are 9 129 people receiving treatment for coronavirus in the country’s healthcare facilities.
Public hospitals account for the highest number of admissions standing at 5 781, while the private sector accounts for 3 348.
“On Friday, the institute reported 18 847 new Covid-19 cases that have been identified in the country.”
This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 393 109.
“This increase represents a 29.4% positivity rate.
“As per the National Department of Health, a further 81 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 90 743 to date," reads the statement by the NICD.
