The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed that a fire has broken out at the Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Facility in Makhado.

The blaze broke out in the kitchen section on Monday afternoon, affecting the maintenance section and two blocks.
The prison, which has two centres, houses about 1 900 inmates.
Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says inmates were moved to a safe zone inside the facility.
"The emergency services are on-site extinguishing fire, the actual cause of the fire is yet to be established. Critical at the moment is to protect lives and ensure that the fire is extinguished completely.
"Security has also been reinforced in order to ensure that the situation is controlled," he added.
No injuries have been reported.
