EFF warns against Janusz Walus parole release
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Gauteng has warned the Office of the Chief Justice against the granting of parole to Janusz Walus.

Walus has spent past three decades in prison after he was convicted of the murder of SACP and ANC leader Chris Hani in Boksburg in 1993.
The Constitutional Court recently ordered that Walus be released on parole, and gave government 10 days to give effect to its directive.
The ruling has angered many South Africans.
The EFF has also been vocal in its opposition to the apex court ruling, and brought the N1 in Midrand to a complete standstill on Thursday morning to register its disgust.
Among their demands is for Chief Justice Raymond Zondo rescind the judgment that Walus be released from the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Services by Friday.

EFF Gauteng national spokesperson Nkululeko Dunga warned that, should Walus be released, the party would stage similar protests in future.
"It can never end here, it can never end with just the shutdown of the N1 south and north. More must be taken for the system to truly understand the decisions that they take that affect the general views of the public and society.
"You know it doesn't end here for Mme Hani who is subjected to relive the pain which she was subjected to when she saw her husband lay there on that cold pavement.
"It's just the continuation of the same hurt that she felt there. So that hurt must be extended because it was brought upon her to relive it and we must extend it to those who have inflicted it."

Meanwhile, EFF national spokesperson Leigh-Anne Mathys has labelled the Zondo as “a custodian of whiteness and white supremacy”.
She says that there is no law which prevents the Constitutional Court from denying Walus parole.

It remains unclear if Walus will be released by the end of Friday as per the Constitutional Court's directive.
The Correctional Services Department has been tight-lipped on the subject, only saying that the decision would be made by Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola.
