The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called for the Eastern Cape's MEC of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Xolile Nqatha, to step down.

This comes after the MEC addressed a memorial service of late Buffalo City Council Speaker, Alfred Mtsi, on Wednesday.
He is seen on footage circulating on social media saying that it is “un-ANC” to investigate individuals who are believed to be involved in corruption when they are Covid-19 positive, saying that this would weaken their immune system.
But this Cde. Xolile Nqatha, Cogta MEC, Eastern Cape is out of line. No wonder why this province is more trouble. I hear the company that did door-to-door Covid-19 awareness is linked to him...🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️ pic.twitter.com/9gjX1CkclW

The EFF's spokesperson, Delisile Ngewnya says it is clear Nqatha is misplaced as an MEC.
"His logic reveals that the corruption that is crippling the Eastern Cape is endorsed and encouraged at the highest levels of governance,” says Ngewnya.
"He must relieve himself of his duties as a public representative so he can show solidarity with the corrupt in his capacity.”
