Economist: Pieterse has necessary knowledge to lead Treasury
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Efficient Group chief economist Dawie Roodt says the appointment of Duncan Pieterse as director-general of National Treasury was not unexpected.

Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni confirmed Pieterse’s appointment during a media briefing on Thursday.
The position has been vacant since June 2022, following the departure of Dondo Mogajane.
Ismail Momoniat has been acting in the position since Mogajane's departure.
Previously, Pieterse served as the head of assets and liabilities at the National Treasury.
Roodt believes Pieterse has the required knowledge to lead the department.
“The appointment of Duncan Pieterse was expected because he has been around for quite a long time, and I think it’s a good idea to appoint somebody with internal knowledge about how treasury works.
“Of course, you can always appoint someone from outside, but you really need specialised knowledge and experience to be able to run that specific division.”
