Correctional services reports 700 Covid-19 cases

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has confirmed 700 cases of Covid-19 in its facilities across South Africa.

Department spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, says 471 are inmates, while the other 229 are officials.
"This comes after Western Cape recorded an additional of eight officials and one inmate. Whilst, fourteen inmates and two officials are located in the Eastern Cape," says Nxumalo.
He adds recoveries at correctional services are currently standing at 137.
The total breakdown of Covid-19 cases at DCS is as follows:
Eastern Cape - 487
Officials - 74
Inmates - 413
Recoveries - 72
Death cases - 2
Western Cape – 189
Officials – 140
Inmates – 49
Recoveries – 53
Death cases – 2
