The Gauteng online application system for Grade 1 and Grade 8 pupils went live on Thursday morning.

Chiloane said he is confident that the upgrades to the system will allow for improved communication.

"If there is no update, it creates a bit of anxiety for parents, so to avoid that, we are communicating more often. We are communicating as we proceed with the applications, post-application, and to update parents on how far the application is.

"Parents are urged to go to the system from time to time to check how far their child's application is.”

He says unhappy parents who have applied on time will be granted an opportunity to appeal the placement of their children.

At the beginning of the 2024 academic year, several pupils were not placed in schools of their choice across the province.

"Parents need to understand that for us, the five schools or three schools that you have chosen means that you are comfortable with your child being placed there. If all the schools that you have opted for are not there while you applied on time, then you will have an opportunity to appeal,” Chiloane urged.
