Ceiling collapse at Tembisa school leaves 18 injured

The Gauteng Education Department is investigating the circumstances which led to the collapse of a ceiling at Umthambeka Primary School in Tembisa.

Tuesday morning’s incident left 18 pupils injured, some of whom had to be rushed to local medical facilities.
The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says 16 pupils have since been discharged.
"Currently, two learners are still recovering at a local medical facility while others are recuperating at home. The cause of the incident is uncertain at this stage. As such, we have launched an investigation into circumstances surrounding this incident”.
Mabona said the department's Psycho-Social Support Team will be dispatched to the school for the necessary counselling.
