Cape Town official in court for rape of girl (13)

A senior official at the City of Cape Town has appeared in court in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl in Mitchells Plain

The 54-year-old man, who is also a former uMkhonto We Sizwe (MK) commander and cannot be named until he has pleaded in court, was arrested on Friday.

He appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
National Prosecution Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says the case has been postponed and the suspect remains in custody.
He is expected to apply for bail during his next court appearance on June 29.
