Back to school: Government still ironing out the kinks
Day one of the school year may be over, but government still has lots of work ahead with thousands of children still not in school.
In Gauteng alone, just under 40 000 pupils are yet to be placed.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura has given the assurance that all pupils will be given a spot in a classroom for 2017.
In Limpopo, there has been a delay with the delivery of stationery to several schools.
Limpopo education department spokesperson Naledzani Rasila says the department is working hard at ensuring all schools have the necessary supplies by the end of the month.
He says despite the delay in the delivery, the first day back at school went smoothly.
"The only challenge we had was with the delivery of stationery. It's not like the schools have nothing. Our pupils just don't have all the necessary supplies."

In KwaZulu-Natal, four children had been killed in a collision between a taxi and a bus this morning.
The children were on their way to school at the time of the accident.
It's believed they were still in primary school.

Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa had sound advice for pupils during a visit to Phehellang Secondary School in Parys in the Free State.
"It all seems impossible until it is done and you have proven it as a school that you can do it."
The school achieved a 100% pass rate in the 2016 and 2015 matric exams.
