They will join a number of other high-profile political leaders who have paid Zuma a visit at his Nkandla home in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) opened the floodgates at the start of the month when they joined the former head of state for a cup of tea at his home.

Police minister Bheki Cele, as well as members of the Umkhonto We Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA), were also spotted in Nkandla during the course of the month.

Neither have gone public about the discussions they had with Zuma.

Secretary-general for the ANCWL, Meokge Matuba, told media on Friday that a date for the visit was yet to be determined.

“We believe the ANC must close all existing gaps between itself and its former leaders. We will visit president Zuma and continue to visit many other former leaders because they are part of the legacy of our gallant movement,” said Matuba.

Zuma is embroiled in a bitter battle with the country’s judiciary over his defiance of a Constitutional Court order calling him to appear and testify before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry.

But Zuma is not the only prominent ANC leader in trouble with the law.

ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule also faces a string of serious charges of corruption for his part in the multimillion-rand asbestos roofing audit contract in the Free State.

On Friday morning, ANC MP Bongani Bongo was acquitted of the corruption charges against him by the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town.

But the party still faces mounting pressure to hold its leaders accountable by finalising the step-aside policy.

Matuba said the ANCWL supports the party’s highest structure’s efforts to root out corruption.

“We welcome the resolution of the ANC NEC to develop guidelines to step-aside resolution and we hope that there will be further consultation with the structures of the ANC.

“We have reflected as members of the ANCWL and agreed that we still need more time for the presentation from the treasurer-general of the ANC (Paul Mashatile) and we will have a special meeting to deal with those issues,” Matuba added.

“We agree on what was presented and we are saying that it’s good that there is a direction in implementing the resolution of the ANC conference and we will engage, and we will have further instructions.”
