Somizi weighs in on the traditional healers debate: "Let people be"
Updated | By Poelano Malema
In his latest 'Bathroom Talk with Somizi' video, Somizi shared his views on celebrities and many people in South Africa becoming traditional healers (sangomas).
Somizi Mhlongo has weighed in on the debate about many South Africans becoming traditional healers.
This is after socialite and actor, Khanyi Mbau, trended after saying a lot of people are mistaking anxiety for the calling of becoming a sangoma (traditional healer).
Somizi, in his latest 'Bathroom Talk with Somizi' video, said he is not in agreement with Khanyi's statements.
"I saw a tweet, I'm not sure if Khanyi posted it or not, or whether it was a fake tweet or not. But the messaging is the one that caught my attention.
"On Twitter they say Khanyi said people, something along the lines of, people don't have a calling or some people don't have a calling, they just have anxiety and they should just go to the doctor," said the 'Idols SA' judge.

He added that he found Khanyi's comments "very disturbing".
Somizi said it is not wise to speak on behalf of other people if you are not walking in their shoes.
“I think we must never speak on behalf of other people, because we are not them in the first place. Second we are not walking in their shoes. We wouldn't want anyone to speak on our behalf.”
The media personality added that he does not believe becoming a sangoma is something people are choosing because it is in fashion.
"When people now say everybody is becoming a sangoma....it's become a fashion, I personally don't think so.
“I think people are woke, people are finding themselves, and they are finding themselves unapologetically."
Somizi compared it to the time when a lot of people were coming out in the open about being homosexual.
"It's the same thing where people say being gay is fashion. It's not a fashion. It's now out there . People are okay and comfortable to be out and they are bold and they are proud.
"Homosexuality has always been there, so as bongoma (traditional healers), but it was stigmatized. It was dark, it was evil, and now people are owning it."
The media personality asked that people let each other be.
"All I'm asking for is that people should respect other people's beliefs and other people's doings as long as it does not harm you...Let people be."
