South African documentary My Octopus Teacher has been nominated for an Academy Award.
The nominations were revealed on Tuesday.
The film, which has garnered critical acclaim since its release on Netflix, has been nominated in the Documentary Feature category.
It is up against four other films.
The film, which was directed by Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed, documents a year spent by filmmaker Craig Foster forging a relationship with a wild common octopus in a Western Cape kelp forest.
It has already won two awards at the Critics’ Choice Awards in November and Best Feature Film at the EarthX fit festival.
Director David Fincher's Mank, a biographical drama about Hollywood screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, topped the Oscar nominations with 10.
The Oscars will be handed out in Hollywood on April 25.
