Bonang, who often jets off to other African countries for gigs and events, has been on the receiving end of backlash from the LGBTI community because "being gay" was outlawed in Uganda a few years ago.
The Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2014 (previously called the "Kill the Gays bill" in the western mainstream media due to death penalty clauses proposed in the original version) was passed by the Parliament of Uganda on 20 December 2013 with life in prison substituted for the death penalty.
The bill was signed into law by the President of Uganda on 24 February 2014.
On 1 August 2014, however, the Constitutional Court of Uganda ruled the Act invalid on procedural grounds.
Her are some of the reactions on social media:
So @bonang_m will be the host of the 2nd annual Uganda Entertainment Awards, that's very good, she is known to be progressive on- gay rights.

Bonang's silence on gay rights in Uganda is violent.

Why would you expect Bonang to not host the Uganda awards? Has she ever said she's a humanitarian ?
