Elton John addresses homophobic law passed in Florida

"We seem to be going backwards."
Elton John has once again spoken out against homophobic behaviour.
The legendary singer has raised concerns about the state of America when it comes to upholding the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
In a recent interview with Radio Times, the multi award-winning singer said: “It’s all going pear-shaped in America."
He went on to speak about "disgraceful" laws which have been passed in Florida.

“There’s violence, [discriminatory] laws enacted in Florida, which are disgraceful.
"There’s a law now that, if you visit a doctor in Florida, they can refuse to treat you if you’re gay, which I find just unbelievable."
Elton said the discriminatory behaviour seems to be spreading. He likened it to a virus.
"We seem to be going backwards. And that spreads. It’s like a virus that the LGBTQ+ movement is suffering.”

He also went on to address the recent news around media personality Phillip Schofield's affair with a younger colleague.
Schofield, 61, resigned from ITV in May and was dropped by his talent agency YMU after admitting to an 'unwise but not illegal' affair with a 20-year-old male colleague.
Elton said the only reason Schofield ended up suffering is because of "homophobia that’s around America".
“I don’t like it at all. It’s a growing swell of anger and homophobia that’s around America. I don’t know if it’s around Britain, because I haven’t been here that much. But I feel that the Phillip Schofield thing has been totally homophobic.
"If it was a straight guy in a fling with a young woman, it wouldn’t even make the papers,” he said.
Elton, who is currently on a tour, says he will not be hosting a concert residency in America.
“I said when I announced the farewell tour that maybe I would do a residency like Kate Bush did at Hammersmith [Apollo in 2014], but not in America. I will not do it in America,” he said.
