Justin Timberlake sells entire song catalog

The musician sold his catalog for a whopping $100-million (over R1.5-billion).

Justin Timberlake has become the latest star to sell his music catalog, joining the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, and Stevie Nicks. 

The news was announced on Thursday by London-based firm Hipgnosis, which also bought Shakira, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Christine Anne McVie, Blondie, and Young's music catalogs. 

Timberlake's catalog included a total of around 200 songs. He has five studio albums and 40 singles. Some of his hit songs include 'SexyBack',  'Can't Stop the Feeling', and 'Mirrors'. 

The Wall Street Journal reports that the catalog was sold for a whopping $100-million (over R1.5-billion) and the funds will be managed  by private equity firm Blackstone (BGB). According to CNN, the fund makes profit off of purchases such as Timberlake's music through movies, television, streaming, cover music, and performances.

The award-winning singer gained fame after he joined *NSYNC. He took the solo path in 2001 and has enjoyed global success. 

He released his debut album 'Justified' in 2002. The album had hits such as 'Cry Me a River' and 'Rock Your Body'. 

Singles such as 'SexyBack', 'My Love', and 'What Goes Around.../...Comes Around Interlude' have topped charts and dominated airwaves all over the world. 

Timberlake has won ten Grammy Awards. He is also the recipient of nine Billboard Music Awards, 11 MTV Video Music Awards, and 29 ASCAP Awards.
