A woman was forced to pay R500 ransom to get her dog back

A Cape Town woman found herself in a horrible situation on Table Mountain over the weekend when she was forced to pay R500 to get her dog back. 

A woman was forced to pay R500 ransom to get her dog back.

According to reports, a Jack Russel named Jolie was running about 20 metres away from his owner, Lisette Lombard. At about 11am, the owner realised that the dog had disappeared.

Lombard searched for her beloved dog for three hours before she received a strange call. When answering, the person on the other end informed her that they had her dog and would not release him until she had paid a ransom. 

The kidnappers had seen her number on the dog's tag.

After negotiating, they agreed on R500 and later met at the Blue Route Mall in Tokai to do the exchange. 

Could this be the new money-making business for criminals?
