Tell A Lie Day: Presenters share the biggest lies they've ever told

Tell A Lie Day is a day where you get a chance to tell half-truths, fibs, and white lies, without the guilt. Although the origin of the day is not known, it’s celebrated on the 4th of April. It's a day dedicated not only to telling lies but also for confessing about a lie you once told.

The way it's celebrated is that you can play silly pranks with your friends or you can use your creativeness to cook up lies. As long as you make sure that your lie doesn't hurt anyone or cause a heart attack, of course.

We asked some of our presenters to share some of the biggest lies they've ever told.

Danny Painter

Ugh, I'm so bad at lying, my face is a dead give-away, but I did tattoo my face and I told everyone it was henna! I was 19 and really stupid. I've since had it lasered off, but it was a really bad decision and a lie I had to keep up for ages. I'm going to say it again, it was a really bad decision. I also cheat at poker night. A lot. And monopoly. Okay, I cheat at board games and I'm not ashamed.  

Liesl Laurie

My biggest lie... In my second year of university I pretended to be very very sick to miss three exams I wasn't ready for. Let’s just say it came back to bite me in the behind because I had to write the "sick tests" over two days. I ended up having to write three-hour papers over two days instead of over five days. EEEEEK!

Mack Rapapali

I guess the worst lie I ever told was when I ran away from school to come to Johannesburg to hustle my music career. The school called my mom to ask if she was aware that I was heading to the doctor because I claimed that I was sick and when my mom called me I told her I was at the hospital because she was out of town.

The lie backfired. She arrived a day earlier from her business workshop because she wasn't feeling well and only to find out she was at the same hospital. When I came back I received a beating of a lifetime. I couldn't sit on my bum for three days and only because the receptionist told her my name was not on the hospital's registration and I checked in to Johannesburg on Facebook. OUCH!

Renaldo Schwarp

The biggest lie I probably told was to my parents back in 2015. I had just started working in the newsroom as an intern and being paid on an intern salary, making ends meet was always a struggle. For the entire year of my internship, I lied to my parents about how much I earned, so they could assist with some of my expenses. I think I told them I earned R2000 less than I actually did.  #TheStruggleWasReal.

Kriya Gangiah

Being in the media industry means that you don't have a regular work schedule and sometimes you end up working quite a bit. I regularly tell my friends and family that I am working just so that I can sit at home on the couch and relax for a little while. But Ssssshhhhhh don’t tell anyone.

Rozanne McKenzie

The biggest lie I ever told was when I was in Grade 10 and really wanted to get a weekend job for extra cash. I told the people at my interview that I was 16, when I was actually 15. I got the job and they were never the wiser.
