Try these five tips for a happier day at work!
You spend most of your day at work, and if you are unhappy, then it can not only affect your job, but your mental health as well.
If you need a little help lifting your mood at work, then these tips are for you - and just in time for Corporate Wellness Week which is taking place from July 1 to 5.
If you are suffering from major depression as a result of work, it is best to seek help from a professional.
1. Start a positive morning routine
According to a Time article, starting your day on a good note has been scientifically linked to having a better day at work. A study reportedly showed that people who arrived at work in a good mood were more productive, and had better interactions at work. Here's how you can wake up and feel positive for the rest of the day:
1. Listen to your favourite music while making breakfast, and dance while you are at it!
2. Look in the mirror and make positive affirmations about the day ahead, and your capabilities.
3. Meditate or pray - sit in the same spot for five to ten minutes, and clear your mind of all negative thoughts.
4. Be thankful - listing all the things you are grateful for will make you appreciate them.
2. Get organised
Work stress is sometimes caused by feeling overwhelmed by a heavy workload. If your deadlines are piling up, getting organised will help you manage them better. List everything you need to do for the day, and make sure you prioritise the important stuff. If your manager or boss is giving you more work than you can manage, don't be afraid to speak up. It's better to discuss your workload than look bad for under delivering.
3. Don't milk a bad five minutes all day
Sometimes one moment at work can ruin your entire day, but it doesn't have to. If you can't address the issue with that person right there and then, put it in your "I just don't care... right now" box - even if it is just so you can focus on more important work.
4. Be passionate
Work is not meant to be easy, but if should be enjoyable. If you love what you do, then you will work through the difficult times, because you have an end goal in mind. Being passionate about what you do is important, and shows in your work. If you hate what you are doing, think about what you would love to do. Next, think about how you can grow in your current company to get there. If you can't picture yourself growing or working long term at your current company, then it is time to revisit your dreams and ambitions. Make a plan to get there!
5. Take a deep breath
When you feel like pulling your hair out at work or throwing a cup of hot coffee on a colleague, just take a deep breath (or two), and take a walk for some fresh air. It will do wonders for your mood!
