5 South African celebrities who support public breastfeeding

It’s World Breastfeeding Week (1 August - 7 August) and to celebrate we are shining the light on celebrity moms who are inspiring moms to feel comfortable about nursing their babies in public.

Public breastfeeding continues to be a fiery debate with many men and women saying moms should cover up.

But those who are pro-public breastfeeding do not see why babies should have to be covered while eating.

Whether you are for or against public breastfeeding does not matter to their famous moms.

They are proud to nurse their babies in public and they don’t care what you have to say about it.

Jo-Ann Strauss

TV personality Jo-Ann Strauss has been pro-public breastfeeding ever since she gave birth to her first child in 2014. The 37-year-old is now a mom of three and she is still not afraid to put anyone in their place for shaming nursing moms.“Even if it offends you, I’m going to feed my baby whenever and wherever because it’s good for my child. If it offends you, look away. It offends me that it offends you, so there, we’re even 😋😍 I always cover up when I breastfeed in public. I have no intention or desire to flash you my boob. I wish society would be less judgemental of women who are doing the most natural thing instead of making them feel unwelcome or awkward,” she wrote on Instagram.

Rachel Kolisi

Rachel Kolisi, the wife of Springbok star Siya Kolisi, says she has been on the receiving end of “uncomfortable stares” whenever she breastfeeds in public. But the mom of two could not be bothered. “BREASTFEED everywhere and anywhere. Covered or uncovered,” she told her Instagram followers.

Ntando Duma

First-time mom Ntando Duma caused a stir in 2017 when she shared a picture of her bare breast while feeding her daughter, Sbahle. While many people found the picture inspiring, others were appalled. The actress was unfazed and continues to share precious moments with her daughter on social media. “Feeding her while trying to put her to sleep in order for her to look cute when taking pictures,” she captioned this picture.

Nkateko ‘Takkies’ Maswanganye

Takkies enjoys bonding with her daughter Sana while breastfeeding. She often takes her baby girl with her to work and is perfectly comfortable nursing her in public. “Took @sanadinwiddy to work with me and this beautiful moment was captured,” he captioned this picture.

Zolani

Freshlyground’s Zolani is pro-public breastfeeding and has shared several pictures of herself nursing on social media. “Because our mothers did it anywhere and everywhere when we were hungry,” she wrote about public breastfeeding on Instagram.
