UWC staff member tests positive for Coronavirus

Acting UWC Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Vivienne Lawack says a staff member had travelled overseas prior to testing positive.

All UWC staff have been instructed to work from home as a precautionary measure.

“After presenting with some symptoms, the staff member opted to be tested. In the meantime, however, he had been in contact with various academics, but not students,” says Lawack.

Lawack says the campus will close in the interest of safety.

“We call on all those who travelled to self-isolate, have themselves tested, and to notify their line managers of the outcome. There is no cause for panic, and we call on everyone to remain calm,” says Lawack.

The University would re-open after all those who had encountered the staff member, and those who have travelled aboard recently, have been cleared, according to Lawack.
